Join our National Security Cyber Accelerator programme and launch your career in Cyber.

Locations: Gloucester, Manchester, London

BAE Systems is offering you the chance to challenge yourself, learn new skills and keep the UK safe by joining our National Security Cyber Accelerator programme.

As part of our Operational Cyber Group within the Digital Intelligence business, you’ll represent one of the fastest growing and most technically challenging parts of the industry. We pride ourselves in being a leader in the cyber space, addressing the most critical cyber needs of governments and businesses across the globe. In our teams, you will work on providing mission-changing capability for our customers with a real impact on national security.

On our National Security Cyber Accelerator programme, you will receive tailored training over 12 months on topics we consider essential to our work: from C++ to cryptography and many others in between. Alongside your training, you will be working in our industry-leading teams where you will work on some of the nation’s toughest challenges. After 12 months, you will seamlessly transition into your role as a fully-fledged member of the Operational Cyber Group.

What you’ll gain:

  • Hands-on training: be taught by specialists and dive into the range of languages, platforms, and technologies essential to cyber experts.
  • Real-world experience: work in our industry-leading teams where you will put your knowledge into action.
  • Mentorship that goes on beyond the Accelerator programme: receive guidance and support as you develop your career in cyber and find your specialism – whether that’s being a high-assurance developer, a researcher pulling apart all sorts of technology, or a cutting-edge vulnerability researcher.
  • A competitive remuneration package with a retention bonus upon programme completion.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Individuals with proficiency in at least one programming language. We're looking for the right attitude and aptitude, not specific languages, tools or qualifications. It’s the versatility that we’re after.
  • Demonstrable familiarity with computer technologies – whether by previous work experience in the tech sector, project work as part of a qualification/degree, or personal projects. Having a working knowledge of modern software engineering practices would be a bonus.
  • Special consideration will be given to individuals who demonstrate an interest and aptitude for vulnerability research or reverse engineering e.g. by playing Capture The Flag challenges.

Why work in the National Security sector?

The difference we make in National Security is epitomised by the work we do with the National Crime Agency to safeguard children:

“In Operation Notarise – an unprecedented six-month operation coordinated by the NCA – our BAE attachment developed bespoke automation tools that saved CEOP an estimated 10 years of effort. Without this support we could not have carried out the operation in the way we did and achieve such widespread results. Notarise led to the safeguarding of over 400 children across the UK and the arrest of over 660 suspected paedophiles.”

Johnny Gwynne, Director, National Crime Agency CEOP Command talking about our BAE Systems National Security team.

Our National Security Cyber Accelerator is currently closed for new applicants. please check back for news of our next intake.

The Global Digital Academy is a centralised service that designs and delivers digital skills training for new and existing employees.

We run specialised programmes, such as the Wireless academy, which is a 12-week training programme to learn and expand vital knowledge on digital languages, which are required to work on wireless projects within the business.

Upskilling topics include tooling and functional skills, networking, computer architecture & development environments and software languages such as; Linux & Bash, C++ and DSP.

The programme offers many benefits such as giving a head start for colleagues who are entering the business or want to develop their skills on software used within BAE Systems. This enables cohorts to gain valuable insights and allows them to focus on main tasks quicker leading to an initial increased workflow.

Participants who have completed the course have commented on the increased confidence the academy has given them to develop in their roles, leading to a higher contribution rate, it has encouraged them to strive for further qualifications and strength their customer relationships.

We run one cohort each year, so whilst we are not currently accepting new applications please check back for news of our next intake, or contact our team to register your interest.
