As well as working with cutting-edge tech, Simone’s discovered being a graduate at BAE Systems also means being part of a supportive and inspiring culture.

I studied electrical and electronic engineering as an undergraduate, followed by a master’s in Sustainable Energy Entrepreneurship.

When I saw the graduate programme advertised at BAE Systems, there were specific electrical and electronic roles available that aligned with what I was looking for, making it a perfect opportunity for me.

Working at BAE Systems as a graduate electrical engineer has allowed me to pursue my passions of engineering and sustainability while applying my education to developing cutting-edge technology.

I find it interesting that we’re working on something that’s so future-focussed and I’m excited to see the results. It gives me a real sense of pride to know that my contributions are helping to protect those who protect us, not just in the UK but at a global level.

I love the flexibility that I get within my team – I get to work the hours that suit me and work from home when I need to. Being in a team that respects and supports each other’s personal needs and commitments is important to me. Having a healthy work-life balance is crucial for everyone’s wellbeing and it also allows me to do the things I’m passionate about outside of work, such as travel.

Many of the work friendships I’ve made started with a two-week immersion at the UK Head Office, which was a great opportunity for all the graduates to get to know each other. It was clear from the beginning that there’s a very supportive culture at BAE Systems – My coworkers are there to support each other when help is needed, and we also enjoy taking time to socialise together outside of work.

Working for a global organisation means there’s plenty of opportunity to move around and work in other locations across the world, hopefully in the future I’ll get the chance to travel to America or Australia.

There are extra-curricular opportunities too – I’m a STEM ambassador which means I get to talk to school children about future career possibilities working in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and hopefully inspire other young girls to pursue a STEM career just like I did. Training within the team is excellent - already I’ve been to a week-long training workshop which was very interesting and helpful to my role and future career.

The support I have received from the early careers team has been incredible and everyone I have met has been welcoming, open and kind.
