Bianca’s involvement in the Legacy Centenary Relay is deeply personal. She recently lost her veteran father and subsequently experienced firsthand the support Legacy can provide.

“Legacy is an organisation very close to my heart. My Dad served in the Royal Australian Navy for 30 years but passed away a year and a half ago. Since then, my family have needed a fair bit of support,” said Bianca.

“It’s an organisation that can help so many people struggling, whether they have lost a loved one or maybe it’s mental health related. Having a connection to people who have experienced similar situations can help dramatically.”

Bianca grew up in a defence family. Not only did her father serve in the Navy for three decades, her brother served for twenty years in the Australian Army. It seemed natural for Bianca to follow their example and join the navy too.

“Transitioning into a career at a defence contractor meant the people at the company understood what I was going through and were really helpful. I have had some great managers here who have made this transition worthwhile, rewarding and provided a better work/life balance.”

As the Legacy Relay approaches its Sydney leg, Bianca is eagerly anticipating the event.

“I’m looking forward to walking for my Dad, for fellow veterans and their families and for all veterans who aren’t able to make it to see this once in a lifetime event.”
