If I was to say the phrase ‘Legend of the Cyber King’, what is the first thought that comes to your mind? A new 2022 blockbuster? Maybe a Marvel spinoff?
What if I told you that it is actually a BAE Systems developed game, created by our own operational cyber team to support with the ongoing recruitment needs of our National Security business?
A combination of a highly competitive candidate-led market and organisations looking to grow exponentially over the next 12-18 months means that employers across the country are needing to think outside of the box in order to attract and retain top talent. It’s no surprise that the National Security arena, like numerous others, is an environment where many businesses are recruiting from the same pockets of candidates.
So, how are we, at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, differentiating ourselves against our competitors?
One way was through our Operational Cyber Accelerator which was launched earlier this year. The Accelerator resulted in the successful recruitment of 17 individuals to join our six-month intensive training programme, before joining our Operational Cyber business in either Gloucester, Manchester or London.
But we also need to expand our team of experienced hires – and that’s where Legend of the Cyber King comes in. Designed to be a fun cybersecurity challenge, it tests gamers’ skills on cybersecurity, software engineering and vulnerability. The aim is to beat the game by exploiting vulnerabilities in the challenge and unlock your destiny.
The game has been developed not only to support with attracting top cyber talent within the industry, but also to create far deeper engagement within the community. We’ve received hugely positive feedback and can attribute our recent recruitment successes to not just the game, but the engagement that comes with it.
