Hydrographic vessel support

What we do
Based in Cairns, Queensland, the Hydrographic In-Service Support (HISS) program is an asset management contract held by BAE Systems Australia since 2008.
The Hydrographic Fleet of Vessels provide services to and collect data for the Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) and the Deployable Geospatial Survey Team (DGST) to ensure Australia's obligations under the SOLAS convention and the national interest (which enable safe navigation, maritime trade and protection of the marine environment protection), can be met.

Under the Hydrographic In-Service Support (HISS) program, BAE Systems Australia provides management of engineering change, configuration management, technical risk, maintenance management and training as well as warehouse and supply support services. BAE Systems is also responsible for forecasting, planning and delivering all maintenance requirements for the Leeuwin Class Hydrographic Ship (HS), the Fantome Class Survey Motor Boat (SMB), the Paluma Class Survey Motor Launch (SML), and the Antarctic Survey Vessel (ASV).

In 2020, the HISS program won an Essington Lewis Award, an award that celebrates the success and excellence in collaboration between Defence and Defence Industry.

Delivering high quality outcomes of seaworthiness, responsiveness and agility was recently recognised as part of the 2020 Essington Lewis Awards. Working side by side with Navy, CASG and enterprise partners to sustain this fleet collectively generated immense value and guaranteed the continuous provision of materially seaworthy ships for our Defence force.
