Craig Lockhart

Chief Executive

Craig joined BAE Systems Australia in 2019 as Managing Director - Maritime after more than 30 years in naval nuclear propulsion and shipbuilding programs. In 2024, he was appointed CEO of our business, following his pivotal role in establishing continuous naval shipbuilding in Australia and achieving the first steel cut milestone for the Hunter Class Frigate Program. Previously, Craig held leadership roles at Babcock International Group, including Managing Director of Naval Marine. He actively supports early career development and serves as Chair of the Australian National Shipbuilding Industry Group. Craig builds strong networks across industry, defence, and politics, holding appointments with National Defence Skills Councils and AmCham.

Andrew Gresham

Managing Director - Defence Delivery

Andrew is a results-driven business leader with extensive experience in the defence sector, specialising in senior leadership, strategy, business development, and operations management. He holds an honours degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA. Andrew joined BAE Systems in 2001, transitioning from the mining sector. As an executive director in our Australian business, he leads a $1 billion annual portfolio of complex projects that deliver critical capabilities for the Australian Defence Force and export clients. Andrew’s strategies have advanced products and acquisitions, improved customer capabilities, and driven business growth. His leadership in technology development and commercialisation has resulted in next-generation products, while his commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture continues to drive innovation and high performance. 

David Shepherd

David Shepherd

Managing Director – Surface Ships

David joined our business in 2025 as the Managing Director – Surface Ships. Previously he was the UK Build Programme Director in BAE Systems’ Naval Ships business where he led the team delivering 8 Type 26 anti-submarine warfare frigates for the Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence.  After completing a master’s degree in aero mechanical engineering from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, David joined the defence industry as a graduate engineer with the BAE Systems Regional Aircraft business. Since then, he has held roles in systems engineering, test and commissioning, project controls, project management and general management; and strategic defence programs with the Atomic Weapons Establishment and Babcock Marine. A majority of David’s career to date has been dedicated to complex shipbuilding programs including the Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers, River class offshore patrol vessels (Batch 2), the Type 26s and now the Hunter class frigates.

Chief Financial Officer

Our Chief Financial Officer Paul is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a chartered accountant with a Bachelor of Economics. Pre-2016, Paul spent 12 years with our business in roles across land, maritime, and integrated systems operations, including as Head of Finance. He rejoined BAE Systems as Finance Director in 2018 with the acquisition of ASC Shipbuilding, leading the areas of finance, strategy, and operational excellence. For 12 months across 2024-2025, he led our Maritime business as Acting Managing Director. Paul previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Adelaide, Singapore, London, and Sydney, specialising in audit, transaction support, and project consulting.

Andy Cornfield

Business Operations Director

Andy oversees our engineering, project management, safety health & environment, workplace solutions, quality, supply chain and sustainability functions. Andy joined BAE Systems in 2016 as Finance Director, bringing 23 years of experience across various industries. He has previously overseen our finance, facilities management, information management and technology, estimating and pricing, and commercial delivery functions. A UK native, Andy began his career as an engineer with Dowty Group while studying manufacturing engineering at the University of Bath. After serving as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force, he worked with Deloitte, becoming a chartered accountant (ICAEW) and later graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. While working in investment banking from 1996, he led roles in risk management and finance before moving into mining in 2002. He is highly experienced in leadership, strategy, and cross-cultural team development.

Chief Corporate Affairs Officer

Will is the BAE Systems Australia Chief Corporate Affairs Officer leading the areas of corporate affairs, communications, government relations, and marketing. He manages our reputation, brand and market awareness, stakeholder relationships, strategic initiatives for growth, and government engagement. Will joined our business in 2019 as Head of Government Relations, overseeing domestic and international government engagement. Before BAE Systems, he was a senior UK diplomat, serving as First Secretary Defence and Security in Canberra, leading defence capability talks that contributed to Australia’s selection of the UK’s Type 26 frigate. Will was appointed Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2019 for services to international trade.

Imogen Hume

Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer

Imogen is BAE Systems Australia’s Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in the Australian defence industry across legal, supply chain, insurance, communications, strategy, and business development. Formerly, she served as our Acting Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing commercial, procurement and capture functions, managing COVID-related issues, and leading the Mission Fit Operating Model. Imogen led contract renegotiations, including JORN ($120M) and Hawk Lead-In Fighter extensions ($1.1B). Previously at ASC Pty Ltd, she negotiated air warfare destroyer contracts and managed Collins Class submarine sustainment. Imogen also reformed procurement across ASC’s $500M annual spend. Skilled in stakeholder management, she excels in simplifying complex issues and delivering pragmatic solutions to achieve business goals. Her management style emphasises transparency, collaboration, and high-performance team building.

Chief Information and Digital Officer

Michael is a technology leader specialising in digital, data, and cyber security and has more than 30 years of experience across five industries. As a passionate advocate for leveraging technology to drive business growth, Michael leads digital transformation at BAE Systems Australia, safeguarding systems, empowering teams, and using data to enhance decision-making. Previously, he served as Chief Information and Digital Officer at SUEZ North America, where he oversaw information technology for a utility serving over 6.7 million people. His leadership earned multiple CIO 100 awards and recognition as 2020 New York CIO of the Year. Michael is an advocate for diversity and inclusion, chairs equity initiatives, and holds a Master of Science - Cyber Security Risk & Strategy from NYU.

Chief Counsel

Paul is a senior legal professional with more than 25 years of experience in corporate and private practice. He joined BAE Systems in 2015 as Legal Counsel after 15 years specialising in major commercial transactions. In 2018, he became Senior Legal Counsel for our Maritime business, leading legal efforts for projects such as the Hunter class frigates, air warfare destroyers, and offshore patrol vessels, as well as the new combat systems and integration line of business. Paul was also the legal lead for other strategic projects including the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) upgrade and the acquisition of ASC Shipbuilding for the Hunter Class Frigate Program. In January 2023, Paul was appointed Chief Counsel.

Chief People Officer

As our Chief People Officer, Angela leads the human resources function, supporting all BAE Systems Australia employees. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the corporate and defence sectors. Angela joined our business in 2009 following a successful career in private practice, where she was a partner at a prominent law firm. In 2015, she transitioned into the role of Chief Counsel, overseeing legal, risk, security, export control and other functions. Angela holds degrees in arts and law (first class honours) from the University of Adelaide. In 2023, she stepped into her current role, where she spearheads key HR initiatives, including talent management, recruitment, and diversity programs. A strong advocate for employee development, Angela is deeply committed to fostering growth and actively mentors individuals to help them reach their full potential.

Mark Binskin

Executive Director Defence and National Security

Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Mark Binskin, AC is Executive Director of Defence and National Security Policy at BAE Systems Australia. A distinguished leader in defence, aerospace, and national security, he served as Chief of the Defence Force (2014–2018), Vice Chief (2011–2014), and Chief of Air Force (2008–2011). In 2020, he chaired the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements. He is Chair of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, the Pacific Security College Advisory Board and the Sir Richard Williams Foundation and provides strategic advice to Nihon Cyber Defence and Ocius. Air Chief Marshal Binskin led 80,000 Australian Defence Force personnel, driving organisational change in national security, culture, and leadership. He completed the Harvard Advanced Management Program and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Non-Executive Director, Maritime

Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, AO, CSC retired from the Royal Australian Navy in 2018 after 42 years of service. In his final role as Chief of Navy, he progressed plans to enhance Navy capability, which is manifest in the National Shipbuilding Plan. He now advises government and industry on maritime issues and serves on various related boards. Vice Admiral Barrett trained as a mariner before specialising in aviation. He gained extensive command experience, including as Commander of the Australian Navy Aviation Group and the Australian Fleet. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and History, a Masters in Defence Studies, and completed Harvard’s Advanced Management Program. In 2017, he published the book The Navy and the Nation.
