Stakeholders from the across the business have contributed to a multi-dimensional suite of learning resources to assist employees in integrating business acumen thinking into their strategic and day-to-day activities.

“Good business acumen is important… as a company it enables us to be more competitive and is a key enabler of growth; and for each of us in our roles it can strengthen our customer relationships, help us understand the bigger picture, and understand the commercial impacts of our work on the business”, says Imogen Hume, Commercial Director – Maritime & Function.

And it’s a high priority for our Chief Executive Officer Ben Hudson.

“It’s a must-have capability in any organisation to achieve its strategic potential, competitive advantage, improved business performance and customer relationships,” says Ben.

“Our ability to make sound business decisions through being commercially aware and inquisitive, evaluating issues and situations to optimise business growth and profitability is vital, both now and into the future.”

The project working group so far has delivered numerous resources including several listen and learn sessions and online training modules, all in the context of our four critical business pillars.

“More people in our business now understand the fundamentals of business acumen which means we’re seeing better decision-making in the context of the whole organisation and improved business outcomes,” says Melanie, Commercial Capability Manager and Chair of the Business Acumen Working Group.

“These resources provide something for everyone - no matter the role, grade or function – it's integrated into our business as usual and reaches everyone in the Australian business.’’

The new business acumen resources are also available for our overseas colleagues, which provides an opportunity to transfer validated best practice and knowledge sharing to our global business.

This initiative of collaboration and capability uplift has been acknowledged in our internal global awards and recognition scheme.
