Meet the People Securing Australia - Dean

Our people are delivering innovative projects and critical capabilities for the Australian Defence Force, which in turn is keeping us all safe. The Hunter Class Frigate Program is transforming Australia’s shipbuilding industry by supporting the building of a world-class, continuous naval shipbuilding capability for our nation.

Dean is the head of prototyping and operations management for The Hunter Class Frigate Program at BAE Systems Australia.

“I like the challenge of it, I like the complexity of working on the shipbuilding program and with that complexity becomes some real innovation and some political problem solving that you don't see any other industry."

Dean is responsible for the day to day delivery of the prototyping program.

“That's really making sure all of our complex processes are ready to go from start,” he said.

“I think i like the idea of being a small cog in a really big wheel and contributing to provide a capability to the men and women in the navy to protect them and then in turn protect us.

“At the moment I’m really interested in our digital simulation – our simulation team has built a digital manufacturing model of the whole yard and we're able to simulate the whole 10 years of building three ships in about 30 seconds.

“Here we can pick up any problems or issues that could occur over the coming nine years.

“I like working with so many people. I think working with a broad pool of people with different skill set is exciting and it helps build a really good culture.”
