Life in the military can be demanding, but so is the transition post-discharge. After serving in the Australian Defence Force, Luke had a difficult time readjusting to civilian life.
Luke spent 18 months recovering from surgery for an injury related to his time in the military and was working in a range of unskilled jobs to try make ends meet.
He initially heard about WithYouWithMe (WYWM) from a friend who’d had first-hand experience with the organisation and had success finding a job. Luke signed up, completed the skills and aptitude testing and attended several digital skills boot camps where he saw fellow veterans upskill and secure digital careers.
Based on his skills testing, the WYWM Career Success team recommended that Luke pursue the Cyber Training pathway which is aligned with his own career goals.
He managed to complete the course while working and participated in interview training ahead of applying for the vacancy with BAE Systems.
Today, Luke is part of the BAE Systems Collaboration Platform Team, managing key tech platforms, including Skype and Microsoft Exchange.
"It's a really positive environment," says Luke.
"The work is fulfilling and I appreciate the flexibility provided to employees to manage their work-life balance.
“Prior to landing the role with BAE Systems, I was really struggling to find the right position and I was feeling anxious about the future. “The job has given me confidence and I now have a safe and secure workplace.”
