BAE Systems Australia welcomes the Defence Industrial Capability Plan

BAE Systems Australia today welcomed the release of the Commonwealth Government’s Defence Industrial Capability Plan, which is an important step in securing a strong, sustainable and internationally competitive defence industry in Australia.
BAE Systems Australia Chief Executive, Gabby Costigan, said: “Australia’s defence industry plays a critical role in delivering the technology, innovation and products needed to ensure the Australian Defence Force has the capability it needs to meet its objectives.

“The Plan rightly recognises the opportunity for industry to play a more significant role in contributing to the growth of the Australian economy, and we are committed to working with the Government to deliver on that vision. Australia’s small to medium enterprises are an important contributor to advancing new and mature capabilities in Defence and we support the initiatives in the Plan aimed at growing their contribution.

“The Defence Industry in Australia is a highly productive one, employing many thousands of highly-skilled professionals. The Defence Industry Capability Plan, together with the Government’s Defence Export Strategy, will work hand in hand to ensure continued opportunities that will grow our base of technicians, engineers and scientists.”

BAE Systems has one of the nation’s largest defence supply chains and a long and successful history of working closely with Australian SMEs, to open up both local and international opportunities.
