Luigi Sidoli explores the synergies between the defence and critical national infrastructure (CNI) sectors, asking how CNI – like defence – can embrace digital tools to overcome some of the challenges highlighted by our latest research.

The autonomous drone team had already found the target. It had worked out the safest route, selected the most appropriate platform for the strike and calculated the probability of success. Then it stopped. Not because it was confused, but because it knew the next decision wasn't its own to make.

From helping protect critical infrastructure to developing cutting-edge technologies that support national security, the space sector is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting places to build a career.

When we talk about military readiness, medical support is just as important as platforms or force structure – and it can be far more complex than many realise.

BAE Systems has successfully completed live trials of its Anti Threat System (BATS) in Scotland, demonstrating the complete BATS 'sense, decide, effect' mission chain against uncrewed aerial threats through a single integrated command-and-control architecture. The trials, conducted over a two-week period, validated BATS’ end-to-end operational workflow, enabling operators to coordinate multiple sensors and effectors to identify and respond to evolving drone threats in real time.

BAE Systems and the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) have partnered to launch a new Master of Science (MSc) degree programme in Radio Frequency (RF) and Wireless Systems Engineering, aimed at addressing the critical shortage of specialist engineering skills in the UK.

BAE Systems has successfully completed integration and deployment testing of its Anti Threat System (BATS), marking a significant milestone in the rapid development of its latest counter-drone capability.
