Why We Innovate

Innovation is at the heart of who we are. It helps us channel our deep expertise and capacity to scale at speed and produce game-changing capabilities that deliver the decisive advantage in any mission, across every domain. We do not simply build for today's mission. We anticipate tomorrow's threats before they emerge and engineer solutions to challenges others consider unsolvable. Coupled with investments in our facilities, talent and research, this drive to innovate enables our ability to deliver limitless technologies to our customers so they always remain one step ahead.

Four core strengths define our approach:

Innovation Expertise Capacity and Scale Strategic Partnerships
We break boundaries in critically important next-generation technology areas, turning bold ideas into fielded capabilities. We leverage decades of mission-informed experience across all domains to create technologies that deliver unmatched capability when and where it matters most. We invest in our people, facilities, and advanced manufacturing capabilities to scale production rapidly and deliver mission readiness for our customers. We fuse leading technologies and bold thinking through strategic partnerships, accelerating innovation to support our customers’ missions.

When warfighters face threats that evolve by the hour, they need a partner who is already working on what comes next. We innovate because the stakes are high, the mission is clear, and those who depend on us are counting on our resolve to deliver.

Where We Innovate

We innovate where the mission demands it, in capabilities that give the warfighter a decisive edge where the fight is hardest. We maintain leading expertise in each of these strategic focus areas, delivering capabilities that meet our warfighters’ needs today and enable them to outpace the demands of tomorrow.

NASA’s Roman Space Telescope launches with BAE Systems-built scientific instruments

BAE Systems is celebrating the successful launch of NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, for which the company designed and developed the Wide Field Instrument's (WFI) critical Opto-Mechanical Assembly. This assembly ensures the structural stability and thermal environment necessary for the WFI to achieve a field of view 100 times greater than Hubble's, enabling scientists to survey the cosmos with unprecedented speed and scale. Building on its history of supporting NASA's flagship astrophysics missions, BAE Systems is now applying this expertise toward the future Habitable Worlds Observatory (HWO), developing picometer-capable mirror actuation systems to search for signs of life on Earth-like planets.
