Salute to Our Partners Wounded Warrior Project

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is transforming the way America’s injured veterans are empowered, employed, and engaged in our communities. When wounded warriors are ready to start their next mission, WWP stands ready to serve.

BAE Systems employees have given their support both financially and by donating items for holiday gift baskets. BAE Systems has also aligned closely with the WWP Warriors to Work program, giving warriors who may be interested in a career at BAE Systems a path forward.

What inspires your organization to do what you do? / How do you support our military?

Our warriors have made incredible sacrifices for us – in turn, we help support them with the goal of fostering the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history. Warriors never pay a penny for our programs – they paid their dues on the battlefield. Our free services in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care change lives.

What is the most significant need you are seeing for military families right now?

Like most families, military families continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of veterans and their families have lost household income because of COVID-19 and it is essential that they have access to both short-term aid and a path to re-employment. WWP’s Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) program, which provides financial aid for necessities like rent or mortgage payments, past-due utility bills and emergency medical or childcare costs, has seen a 15% increase in requests for aid since the start of the pandemic. Isolation has also been a significant challenge. Since March of 2020, WWP has seen a 36% increase in demand for the WWP Talk program, a telephonic mental health service that provides regular emotional support phone calls to warriors and a 52% increase in referrals to WWP Mental Health and Wellness programs.

How can people get involved with/support your organization?

As soon as both BAE Systems and WWP are cleared to attend in-person events, we always welcome volunteers at events like our Soldier Ride or Carry Forward 5k. Writing cards to warriors is a great way to express your appreciation and to show support. We are also happy to support any individual who would like to hold their own fundraising event in support of WWP – whether it be a motorcycle ride, backyard BBQ, etc. We are also grateful for the BAE Systems employees support in the Defending 22 campaign and the events held during military appreciation month!
