We’re constantly looking for ways to develop our next generation munitions and world-class solutions for our customers. The world that we’re living in, and the threats that our customers are exposed to are becoming increasingly technologically advanced, and the artillery space is no exception.
Our next generation explosive mixing is a unique method of mixing explosives. This delivers an energy-dense formulation, providing enhanced performance, when used with our ammunition. Resonant acoustic mixing uses vibration rather than traditional mixing blades. To coin a well-known phrase, the formulation is ‘shaken, not stirred’. This allows us to create explosive formulations that cannot be processed using traditional techniques.
Our next generation explosive mixing delivers a number of benefits, providing a cost effective product with superior performance and enhanced capability.

Enhanced explosive power

This means less explosive is required to deliver the end effect, increasing space within the shell or warhead. This provides the option for either additional propellant, enhancing the speed and range, or tracking hardware for superior precision.

Fast and efficient processing

Mixing and curing times are significantly reduced; what used to be take hours, can now be processed in minutes.

Sustainability

Not only are there no complex mixing blades to clean but the formulation can also be mixed ‘in case’, to the exact quantity required, meaning less waste. Curing also takes place at lower temperatures. This delivers a substantial reduction in energy consumption and waste materials

Innovation lies at the forefront of delivering a sustainable future and our Next Generation of Explosive Mixing is the first in a line of industry-disrupting technologies that we have developed and acquired in this arena. Our use of technology is transforming the way we work, ensuring that BAE Systems and the UK remains at the leading edge of sustainable munitions manufacture, that provide a real operational advantage.
