Apprentice of the Year

At the BAE Systems' UK Apprentice Awards on the 21 January 2016 apprentices from all over the Company's UK  businesses were awarded in 10 different categories, including the 'UK Apprentice of the Year'.

Bradley Smith an electrical apprentice from Land UK, based in Radway Green was named the Apprentice of the Year, as well as, Craft Electrical Apprentice of the Year.

Bradley first heard about the BAE Systems' apprenticeship scheme because his father is already an employee at Radway Green. Instead of following in his father's footsteps and entering the world of mechanical engineering, Bradley became an electrical engineer. The biggest attraction to the apprenticeship scheme was that it offered Bradley the chance to carry on his studies, whilst getting paid and gaining hands-on industry experience. This opportunity has enabled Bradley to achieve a foundation degree which he is now looking to add to, with a BEng in Electrical Engineering.

Joining BAE Systems on a four-year apprenticeship, Bradley took on a number of six-month placements – including in machine installation and electrical maintenance – and found himself enjoying the varied work on offer, expanding his skills working as part of a number of different teams, and learning a variety of valuable lessons.

Talking to Bradley on the night of the UK Apprentice Awards, he said:
“It feels Amazing to have won this award, I can’t believe it! It was such an honour to win the Craft Electrical Apprentice of the Year, let alone the Apprentice of the Year. I’m really proud of myself, for my family, friends and the whole of Land UK. It’s such a great achievement and I’m pleased to put Radway Green on the map.”
