This year’s Malaysia Chevening scholars attend Foreign and Commonwealth Office reception

Chevening Scholarships offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the brightest and best from around the world to study for a one-year Master’s degree at any of the UK’s leading universities.

The 2013/14 intake of BAE Systems' sponsored Malaysian Chevening students, have now arrived in the UK to study and this week Andy Lavin, Programme Director Malaysia met up with some of them at a welcome reception at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

Andy said: “All the students recognise that this is a highly prestigious scheme and that previous scholars have gone on to be leaders in their particular field be it law, academia, industry, politics and many other vocations.  The students were charming and engaging - I met others as well as the Malaysian scholars.

“The Malaysian contingent had all heard of what we delivered at Warton for last year's cohort and they were really keen to follow in their footsteps, with flying in the Typhoon simulator at the top of their list.  All of the scholars see this as a really exciting opportunity and it was interesting to learn that there’s a real affinity with the UK from their families and themselves.”

Sponsorship of the Malaysian Chevening Scholarship programme is an important step in developing BAE Systems education programme in Malaysia and aligns perfectly with our approach to education globally, where we have a culture of lifelong learning.  In addition, the Malaysia Chevening Scholarships align with Malaysia’s Vision 2020 and support the country’s aspirations to develop leaders to grow and develop the economy through the Economic Transformation Programme.
