His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent paid an official visit our Maritime-Submarines site in Barrow-in-Furness, marking the second Royal visit to the site in just five weeks.

The Duke of Kent was welcomed by Managing Director, John Hudson, before being given an in-depth tour of the major facilities to see the nation’s future submarines under construction.

In the New Assembly Shop, His Royal Highness saw units under fabrication for the fifth Astute class submarine, Anson, before visiting Devonshire Dock Hall construction facility. There he saw Boat 4, Audacious, and went on board Boat 3, Artful.

Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited BAE Systems in Barrow where they officially opened the Future Submarines offices and enjoyed a full tour of the shipyard’s facilities.

This is not the first time that the Duke of Kent has visited BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness. He visited the site in April 1990 and, after recently seeing Astute in Faslane, asked to re-visit to see where she had been built.

He officially opened the Dock Museum in Barrow in 1994.
