  • Age 16+
  • 5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) Including Maths and English, as well as a science or technical subject for engineering or technical roles. Specific requirements may vary depending on the role.
 
Scotland
  • Age 16+
  • 5 National 4s (or equivalent) – which must include Maths (excluding Application or Maths), English and a Science/Technical subject.

OR

  • 4 National 5s Grade C or above (or equivalent) Maths, English, Science and Technical (excluding Application of Maths) AND 3 Highers at Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science or technical subject (excluding Application of Maths).

As a metrology apprentice, your focus will be on ensuring accurate and traceable measurements are made in relation to reference standards. Our metrology services offer specialised advice and calibration services across various parameters like dimensional, torque, pressure, temperature, and humidity.

The role of a steelworker includes working from planned drawings to erect product framework. You will be involved in marking out, cutting and shaping components used in the framework of our products. This involves fabricating various sections as well as smaller steel components.

There are a variety of machines that are used to manufacture the components. Many skills can be gained including turning, threading, milling, tapping and boring as well as having the chance to be able to operate a CNC machine.

As a manufacturing support apprentice you will support all aspects of manufacturing engineering, ensuring processes are carried out within the product and process design parameters, supporting manufacturing schedule adherence, and ensuring interruptions in production are resolved in a safe manner with minimal down time.

You will join a highly experienced team working across a number of manufacturing facilities. You will learn about non-destructive examination, testing methods both on the job and through gaining personal certification in non-destructive testing methods which includes attending external training facilities this will include a level of training and examinations to prove competency to meet the requirements of ISO 9712.

The advanced business administrator apprenticeship will offer you the opportunity to gain real experience working in the business areas which support all of our products. You will have the opportunity to build and expand on many skills through a combination of ‘off-the-job’ training, reviews and work placements. The role involves a wide range of clerical and administrative duties within a department to ensure the smooth running of the department.

As a sheet metal work apprentice you will undertake a range of engineering activities that will develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in order to meet the apprenticeship standard and that of the role of a sheet metal worker. During your apprenticeship you will gain valuable experience in one of our manufacturing workshops, which will culminate in you completing an end point assessment.

You will be responsible for the operation of various data capture equipment used in the industry. This role is wide-ranging, has both practical and theoretical elements and you will often be viewed as a multi-disciplined engineer, with knowledge of all electronic aspects of test and evaluation techniques.

The role of the driller involves a variety of different activities. You’ll be working in workshops and on board submarines drilling holes using various types of drilling equipment, ranging from a small compressed air pistol drill to large scale industrial drills. Larger holes are bored using specialist boring bars and machinery, up to the sizes of 140mm.

During the fabricator advanced apprenticeship, you will develop a range of different engineering skills and underpinning knowledge to successfully complete this apprenticeship. Throughout your apprenticeship you will gain valuable experience working on maritime vessels which will culminate in you completing your end point assessment.

As a maintenance technician apprentice you operate in a modern manufacturing environment and be involved in fault finding and repair, planned maintenance and operating mechanical equipment used to manufacture our products. Other maintenance support roles arise within the function, such as planning, logistics and safety to manage the products through their expected service life.

As a mechanical fitting apprentice you will be working from engineering drawings, data and documentation in order to carry out the manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, fault diagnosis and maintenance of all hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment.

The pipe fabrication role encompasses the positioning, assembly, fabrication, maintenance, repair of piping systems. This can include working in environments with systems that may carry water, steam, food, pharmaceutical, chemicals, gas, hydrocarbons or fuel which may be used in cooling, heating, lubricating and other processes.

As a rigging & slinging apprentice you will be involved in the lifting, moving and positioning of loads during engineering construction projects. It involves, but is not limited to, the detailed planning and control of all the elements required to successfully and safely execute and complete the lifting, moving and positioning operation. Riggers are responsible for safely moving loads using static and mobile moving and lifting equipment and accessories.

As a shipwright apprentice you will be trained in a range of Steelwork processes, fabrication and MMA stick welding and will gain experience in main alignment on major steelwork units as well as pre-fabricated seats using knowledge gained with marking out, using a variety of tools and equipment such as thermal cutting and welding.

As a welding apprentice you will be involved in using skilled techniques to make high strength joints, you will use two or more welding processes to join a number of different metals. You will be required to meet the level of quality and inspection required in safety critical work.
