Synthetics already play a significant part in the life of a Royal Air Force pilot — and, as the technology becomes ever more sophisticated, the ability to do more with synthetics grows. At RAF Coningsby, one of the UK’s main operating bases for its Typhoon fleet,  a team of around 20 training experts from BAE Systems put new and experienced RAF pilots through their paces to ensure they’re ready for whatever the real world  throws at them.

Providing critical safety equipment which protects sensitive parts of the Eurofighter Typhoon whilst in flight is a key part of business for aerospace specialists Hutchinson Stop-Choc.

Red Flag is tough. A gruelling two-week combat air exercise that’s one of the largest and most intense in the world. But in 2024 it got even tougher for the Typhoon crews from the UK RAF’s 3(F) Squadron from RAF Coningsby. Not only did they face two weeks of demanding daily sorties at the Nellis Air Force Base, but when they’d completed that phase it was straight to California for round two.

It was a night of celebration for BAE Systems apprentices across the UK and in particular, our three Munitions apprentices, Josh, Nathan and Oliver who were this year nominated for awards at the UK Apprentice Awards held in Manchester this February.

Micro technology makes macro impact

Typhoon proved it can mix it with the best during one of the world’s toughest, most intense air exercises. Crews from the UK RAF’s 3(F) Squadron from RAF Coningsby had a demanding test during the recent Red Flag 24 at Nellis Air Base in the United States, but came through it with reputations enhanced.

Humairaa Saleh, 21, joined BAE Systems Digital Intelligence two years ago through the National Security Apprenticeship scheme as a software engineer apprentice straight after studying A-level Maths, Physics and Further Maths at sixth form.
