Sunday, November 11, is Veterans Day – a day to honor the military men and women who have given their lives, or given of their lives, in service to our nation. On behalf of the employees of BAE Systems, I would like to thank the more than 20 million living U.S. veterans and the many millions more who are no longer with us.

Our founding fathers may have declared our nation’s independence, but in large measure it has been the men and women of our military who have helped preserve those freedoms throughout the years, often at great personal cost. And for that we owe an eternal gratitude.

As a company, we lean heavily on, and benefit greatly from, the unique experiences and abilities of our roughly 3,000 veteran employees. Few can understand the requirements of a customer like a man or woman who has worn that customer’s uniform. And few can appreciate the product needs of an end user like someone whose own life once counted on that very product.

Since 2009, our Warrior Integration Program has helped 100 wounded warriors make the transition from military service to civilian employment. The program has never been about providing jobs; it’s been about developing careers that harness the specific skill sets and backgrounds that individual veterans bring to the workplace. Sure, it’s about doing what’s right. But it’s also about doing what’s right for our business.

I couldn’t be more proud of our veteran employees and the contributions they’ve made, not just to our country, but to our company as well. This Sunday and Monday, don’t forget to thank the veterans in your life.
