We’re constantly looking for ways to develop our next generation munitions and world-class solutions for our customers. The world that we’re living in, and the threats that our customers are exposed to are becoming increasingly technologically advanced, and the artillery space is no exception.
For troops on the battlefield, weight burden is critical. Our new lightweight case ammunition makes mobility easier and allows greater tactical flexibility. Using high strength, lower density materials, coupled with innovative manufacturing processes, our new 5.56 x 45mm round is significantly lighter – up to 25%.
Weight
Whether looking at it from the perspective of the soldier on the ground or the chinook in the air, the benefits are significant. The weight saving provides the option for either additional ammunition to be carried/transported or the weight burden to be reduced upon the soldier or in transportation.
Improved Performance
Our lightweight case ammunition has been proven to out-perform its heavier, brass counterpart. We are currently working on developments that will see the cartridge weight reduced even further, possibly up to 46%, when compared to the brass alternative. We have also included a laser etched, scan-able identification code, allowing the user to access information relating to the round, such as date of manufacture and batch number, giving full traceability.
Sustainability
Our lightweight case is made from fully recyclable, stainless steel, that can be re-used time and time again. It also requires significantly less processing during manufacture, delivering a reduction in energy consumption. Stainless steel is environmentally neutral. Our spent casings will have no adverse impact upon the environment.
