BAE Systems has been accredited by Amazon Web Services (AWS) for many years.
We are recognised by AWS as a Premier Tier Partner – designated to organisations with deep technical expertise and demonstrated success of working with customers at scale – and a Premier Consulting Partner. This designation is awarded to companies that are experienced at working with government and commercial customers to build, migrate, and manage mission-critical workloads and applications.
Now, we have a new accreditation to add to the list. BAE Systems Digital Intelligence has recently attained the AWS Migration Consulting Competency within the Secure Government sector, recognising our experience and expertise in working with secure clouds for highly sensitive customer projects.
Demonstrating cloud capability
Achieving this Competency, which we did in partnership with our US businesses BAE Systems Inc., showcases our expertise in helping customers seamlessly move to the cloud and is a significant milestone for our business. As the first company to have achieved this accreditation using only case studies from Secure Government, it provides a valuable market differentiator as well as tangible proof of our niche experience working with unique customer environments.
It demonstrates our competency and drive for excellence that we strive to deliver for our customers in sensitive cloud migration projects. This gives our Secure Government and National Security customers, as well as those in other sectors, confidence that we have done this many times before and always follow best practice as a trusted partner on their journey to cloud.
The AWS Migration Consulting Competency accreditation provides a number of assurances to our customers, including:
1. Technical and industry expertise – we have in-depth knowledge of migration best practices, tools and strategies
2. Trust and quality – our solutions meet the rigorous standards set by AWS, ensuring a reliable transition to the cloud
3. Efficiency – as an experience migration partner, we are able to streamline projects and minimise disruptions to business operations while providing much-needed agility
4. Risk mitigation – we are well equipped to mitigate risks which come when migrating to the cloud, ensuring a smooth, secure migration.
Overall, the accreditation process was a significant journey – but this is just the beginning. We believe the expertise we have within our National Security and Secure Government teams will become increasingly important for other sectors in the coming years as the cloud continues to become ever more prevalent, always with a critical focus on security.
Transforming Government infrastructure
One customer in the space had several drivers for migrating to cloud infrastructure, most notably the need to increase their delivery agility to meet ever-changing requirements and gain re direct control over their infrastructure spend while modernising their technology stack. Without such a migration project succeeding, business services utilised by agencies nationwide would start to lag behind in their delivery against requirements. There was even a risk of critical services ceasing to function, thereby causing significant disruption.
BAE Systems Digital Intelligence was involved as the design authority for the migration, defining the strategy and technology to be used along with the security control requirements. Our team ensured the platform components and applications were migrated according to the strategy and requirements, while ensuring a minimal amount of downtime.
Through careful planning, control, and the use of various AWS services, the migration was a success. This has provided many benefits to the customer, from replacing manual processes with automatic CI/CD deployment processes to reducing raw infrastructure costs by more than 55% per month. The security posture of the entire estate has also been much improved, and the migration has even permitted the customer to explore new technologies.
