Charles Woodburn, our Chief Executive, is awarded a CBE for services to international trade and skills.

Dave Short, who recently retired from his role as Group Technology Director, received an MBE for services to military capability.

Jonny Moreton, who joined our Air Sector in March 2023, received a CBE following a distinguished career in the Royal Air Force.

Charles Woodburn’s award recognises the role he has played in major international trade partnerships, including AUKUS, the Global Combat Air Programme and leading the Company’s support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces following the Russian invasion.

Domestically, Charles has championed opportunities for young people, serving as Chair of the charity Movement to Work this year, and overseeing the doubling of BAE Systems’ apprentice and graduate recruitment intake over the past five years.

Charles has also played an important role as a leading voice on behalf of the defence and security industry in the UK and around the world.

I am humbled to receive this award – it’s a huge honour that belongs to the entire team at BAE Systems, who work tirelessly day in, day out to provide critical capabilities and services to our armed forces, security services and other customers around the world.
Charles Woodburn, Chief Executive, BAE Systems

Dave Short’s MBE recognises the significant role he has played in service to UK military capability across almost four decades, since starting his career with the Company as a graduate systems engineer.

Dave is recognised as one of the country’s leading engineers, having led the development of cutting-edge defence technologies throughout his career. This includes the integration and qualification of ground-breaking avionic systems and sensors on some of the RAF’s most iconic aircraft, from Tornado and Hawk through to Typhoon and F-35.

I’m absolutely delighted to receive this honour and it’s a very special surprise to have my work recognised in this way. I consider it a privilege to have spent my career contributing to UK defence technology, fulfilling my life-long passion for the application of systems engineering capability. My colleagues over the years have been exceptional – we’ve achieved a lot together and I want to pass on my heartfelt thanks to them all. I hope that through my continued involvement with the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK Engineering Council and Royal Aeronautical Society our paths will continue to cross in the coming years.
Dave Short, Group Technology Director, BAE Systems (retired)
I’m hugely proud to be awarded an honour. My 33 years serving in the Royal Air Force has been an amazing and rewarding career, which has included some incredible experiences both on operations and in ground appointments. In more recent years I have been lucky enough to be part of the journey toward the future of combat air both in the MoD and now with BAE Systems. In receiving this honour I am immensely grateful to all those that have supported me in my career, especially my family who have been there every step of the way.
Jonny Moreton, FCAS Export Partners Director, BAE Systems

All recipients will look forward to receiving their awards at investiture ceremonies in 2024.
