An insight into the joint working between UK industry and the Ministry of Defence to develop new and emerging technologies to support Britain’s world-leading combat air capability. This is part of a co-funded initiative, known as Team Tempest involving the RAF Rapid Capabilities Office, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, Leonard and MBDA, that will ensure the UK can develop future aircraft to address evolving military threats and operational requirements.
Tuesday 17 July
09:30 – 10:00: Eurofighter Typhoon long-term evolution

This briefing will focus on the continued development of Eurofighter Typhoon and how it will form a central pillar of any Future Combat Air System platform for Europe. It will highlight several key technologies that feature in the long-term development plan for Eurofighter Typhoon and that we expect to see on a future European fighter programme. Andy Flynn, Project Centurion Delivery Director for BAE Systems will be available for questions afterwards.
11:00 – 11:45: F-35 Industry ramps up: reducing costs, improving capability and expanding capacity

Andrea Thompson of BAE Systems joins a panel of representatives from Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Pratt & Whitney for a briefing on the F-35 programme, focusing on the industry push towards cost reduction and capability enhancement. This briefing will focus on the industry partnership and collaboration to deliver full rate production and a global sustainment solution.

Two years on from the signing of the Typhoon Total Availability eNterprise (TyTAN) contract, this briefing will provide an update on the delivery of support, including a focus on our role in delivering in international markets.

A high-level overview of electronic warfare and BAE Systems’ position as a world leader in this technology, as well as brief status updates on key programmes, including Digital Electronic Warfare System (DEWS), Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System (EPAWSS), Compass Call, and the EW suite for F-35 fighter aircraft.
12:30 – 13:30: APKWS® Laser-guided rocket | Low-cost precision strike capability

A high-level overview of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS©) Laser-Guided Rocket, including missions and key benefits, as well as a brief programme status update and an insight into how the technology works.

This session will hear three expert views on the benefits of big businesses and universities working together to develop the technologies of the future. BAE Systems has strategic partnerships with five UK universities, including the University of Southampton and the University of Birmingham, with whom we have worked on projects including augmented and virtual reality and quantum technology.
