Typhoon Total Availability Enterprise (TyTAN)

From the northern tip of Scotland to the South Atlantic, we work alongside the Royal Air Force’s frontline and training fleet.

Under a unique availability contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), known as Typhoon Total Availability Enterprise (TyTAN), our teams are focused on ensuring Typhoon aircraft can be out on operations or carrying out training rather than being in the repair shop. Through this partnership, we are giving the RAF the aircraft it needs, when it needs them.

The TyTAN enterprise is unlike anything else I’ve worked on. Fundamental to its success is the embedded behaviours within the entire team where a culture of openness, transparency and honesty takes precedent. There are no barriers here between MoD and industry, we all work together – many of us in the same building – and are completely focused on problem solving to deliver a total support solution for this aircraft.

Strength in partnership

Through our joint venture BSL, a team of more than 200 people provide maintenance support to the fleet operated by the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) Typhoon Wing from Dukhan Air Base. This team ensures availability of the QEAF Typhoon fleet is available to respond to secure the skies over the nation and aligns to Qatar’s Vision 2030, nurturing and retaining local skills to support its sovereign capability.

Supporting the FIFA World Cup 2022

As the eyes of the world fell on Qatar when it hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2022, a joint Typhoon force of aircraft from the QEAF and RAF played a key role in ensuring air security over the millions of fans who arrived for the global event.

Operation World Cup Shield saw eight aircraft from 12 Squadron, the joint Qatar-UK Typhoon squadron, flying 114 operational hours alongside their QEAF counterparts during the tournament. Our maintenance teams were part of a partnership involving Qatari and British personnel keeping Typhoon flying over the tournament, whilst also supporting Project Thariyat, the formation of the QEAF’s first Typhoon squadron.
