Looking for an opportunity to take your career further while experiencing life in a new part of the world? That's exactly what Rob found at BAE Systems. Relocating to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has enabled him to continue contributing to work that matters, embrace new cultures and experiences, and build the next chapter of his career while working with advanced aerospace technology. Beyond the role itself, he's enjoyed the opportunity to broaden his horizons, experience a different way of life and be part of a close-knit international community.

My career journey has been varied, stretching and incredibly rewarding. I began with an Electronic Engineering Apprenticeship at Marconi Communication Systems before being sponsored by the Royal Air Force to study Aerospace Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire. Following graduation, I served for 30 years in the RAF as an Aerosystems Engineer Officer before relocating from the UK to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to join BAE Systems.

After retiring from the RAF, I joined BAE Systems in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The move felt like a natural progression, allowing me to apply my experience in a new context while continuing to work in defence and advanced aerospace technology.

Relocating to KSA and joining BAE Systems

My choice to relocate to Saudi Arabia was motivated by familiarity and opportunity. I had previously worked in KSA during my RAF career, including at the location where I am now based. I remembered the strong sense of teamwork, the professionalism of the people and the fascinating blend of culture, working environment and technological complexity. That experience stayed with me and played a significant role in my choice to return.

The transition from the UK to KSA was made smooth through excellent engagement and communication from both BAE Systems’ UK HR Recruitment Manager and the Operations Director in KSA. From the outset, expectations were clear and there were no surprises. Arriving on site, I was made to feel part of the team immediately and was given a clear understanding of how my role contributes to delivering outstanding support to the customer.

Moving from a long military career into a senior executive role within industry was a significant personal and professional adaptation. I needed to quickly understand BAE Systems ways of working, adapt to the customer environment and re‑establish myself in a different organisational culture. I embraced that experience, drawing on the strong teamwork around me and leveraging my experience to add value as quickly as possible.

BAE Systems has supported my development by encouraging continuous learning and by trusting me to apply my skills in new and complex situations. As the saying goes, every day is a learning day, regardless of where you are in your career. I’ve been able to use my background to solve complex problems while continuing to grow and adapt.

For me, the work combines innovation with real-world impact. On one side, I’m involved in supporting advanced aerospace technologies and evolving capability within a fast-paced international environment, while also ensuring reliable delivery, operational excellence and sustained support for the customer.
Being part of a global organisation is central to this experience. Working across borders brings fresh perspectives, shared expertise and a collective commitment to excellence that strengthens both teams and outcomes.

After 30 years in the RAF, relocating to KSA was both a personal and professional step into something new, but the teamwork and support within BAE Systems made it an incredibly positive transition. Every day I’m contributing to something that truly matters.
