What started as a desire to build a meaningful career became a journey of continuous learning, new opportunities and lasting impact. Today, Christina is helping shape the future of defence while contributing to programmes that protect those who protect us. Her story shows what's possible when you're encouraged to stay curious, supported to grow and given opportunities to build a career that's constantly evolving.

When I joined BAE Systems as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice, I was inspired by the ships being built around me and the possibility of being part of something bigger than myself. I wanted to learn, earn and develop a meaningful career, but I never imagined quite how many opportunities would be available to me throughout my journey.

Meet Christina

My career has taken me across multiple functions, from manufacturing and engineering to quality and now business management. Each move has expanded my skills, introduced me to new teams and given me fresh perspectives on how we pioneer new ways of working while supporting the delivery of programmes that protect national capability.

Starting on the Type 45 programme, I developed practical engineering skills and gained first-hand experience of shipbuilding. As my career evolved, I moved into Quality, where I learned about inspection standards, testing requirements and continuous improvement. I later progressed into production engineering and senior quality leadership roles, helping teams strengthen capability, improve processes and embed quality-focused behaviours across the business.

One of the proudest moments of my career was helping deliver HMS Defender and handing the ship over to the Royal Navy. Having worked on the programme through manufacturing, quality and sea trials, seeing the vessel completed and operational was an incredible reminder of the impact our teams can have when we work together towards a common purpose.

I've never felt the need to leave BAE Systems to find my next opportunity. Every role has helped me learn something new, expand my network and build skills that have opened doors across the business. My career today looks completely different to where I started, and that's what makes the journey so exciting.

Business Enablement Manager, UK

Throughout my career, I've been encouraged to stay curious, embrace change and keep learning. Whether gaining qualifications, becoming a lead auditor, launching apprenticeships, supporting early careers development or leading teams, I've always been trusted to explore new opportunities and grow beyond my comfort zone.

What I value most is knowing there is still more to discover. Being part of a global organisation means there are countless opportunities to learn from different teams, functions and geographies while building a career that evolves with your ambitions and your life. As a working parent, the flexibility I've received has also been invaluable, helping me balance family commitments while continuing to progress professionally.

My advice to anyone considering a career at BAE Systems is simple: be curious, understand your strengths, keep learning and don't be afraid to try something new. Some of the most rewarding opportunities come from taking a step into the unfamiliar.
