Andrew discovered his passion for precision engineering, transforming raw materials into aircraft components that quietly support innovation and safeguard those who depend on them.

I was drawn to BAE Systems because of the care it takes of people, skills and technology. From the moment I joined, I could see how much trust is placed in machinists to work with advanced equipment and create components with absolute precision. Knowing that I could learn, grow and contribute to something meaningful is what made me apply, and what’s kept me here.

Every day on site feels purposeful and energising. I might begin with a simple bar of metal but through focus, patience and craftsmanship, that material becomes a fully functioning aircraft component. Seeing aircraft out on the runway is a quiet but powerful reminder that my work plays a part in supporting real world capability. There’s pride in that responsibility, and satisfaction in getting the detail right.

The environment is lively and supportive. Being surrounded by colleagues who are generous with their knowledge means problems are shared, talked through and solved together. I feel encouraged to ask questions, offer ideas and keep learning. That sense of collaboration helps us continually improve how we work while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

There’s something really rewarding about seeing a part you’ve created become part of something bigger - it reminds me every day why the detail matters.

Being part of a global community has broadened my perspective. I work alongside people from different cultures and backgrounds, all united by a shared purpose. There are opportunities to collaborate, learn from others and continuously improve the products trusted by our armed forces.

One of the highlights of my career has been working on components for Typhoon and other British aircraft, then seeing them in action. Knowing I’ve contributed, even in a small but vital way, is incredibly fulfilling. I’m excited by the future projects ahead and the potential they hold.

Being trusted with responsibility, supported by my team and encouraged to keep developing is what makes this journey special.
