Jim McDowell, Managing Director, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia at the GCF2012

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: BAE Systems will sponsor the SAGIA King Khalid Competitiveness Index Award which encourages private sector companies operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to apply best practice and adopt programmes which support the development of sustainable social, economic and environmental policies.

The Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index (SARCI) analyses how Saudi companies are building competitive advantage by managing their social and environmental impacts.

It looks beyond community projects and corporate responsibility programmes to understand how firms are attracting and retaining employees, implementing strong environmental policies and working with suppliers. Such responsible competitiveness strategies are enabling companies to manage risks, enhance productivity, build brand value and unlock new sources of innovation.

The Saudi Responsible Competitiveness Index is led by the King Khalid Foundation and Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA). It is supported by the international think-tank AccountAbility who has developed an internationally-benchmarked methodology, customized for local conditions in the Kingdom, and designed to promote learning in participating companies.

The three strongest performers on the Index – those companies that have made the most progress at aligning core operations to environmental and social development - will win a King Khalid Responsible Competitiveness Award, which is awarded every two years.

For its part, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia has been keen to encourage activities that benefit the community and to support actions that translate into the national initiative to support social responsibility programmes.

BAE Systems is one of the largest international companies in the field of defence, aerospace and security.  It has a global workforce of 100,000 employees around the world, and about 5,300 employees in Saudi Arabia. More than half its employees are Saudi Nationals, which makes the company one of the largest global companies in terms of employment of Saudis in the private sector, which enabled the company to be awarded the Prince Naif Saudization in 2011.
