For Ana, it’s the hands-on nature of her role and the deeper sense of purpose - helping deliver aircraft at the forefront of innovation, built to protect what matters most - that makes her work so rewarding.

BAE Systems is special to me because it gives me the opportunity to do my dream job. Working on fast jet aircraft feels inspiring. Each morning, I stand on the tarmac and watch the sunrise across the airfield, and seeing the engines come to life reminds me just how important our work is. We support people who depend on this capability and it’s an incredible feeling to look up and see something I’ve helped maintain flying safely overhead.

I love the variety and problem-solving my role brings every day. There isn’t always one tool or process for everything, so you need to think creatively and adapt to get the job done. Working on a small jet means everything is compact and success relies on collaboration, with people bringing different skills together to achieve the best outcome.

Being part of that team environment is what I enjoy most. We work together to deliver a product that is safe, reliable and fit for flight. Whether you’re servicing the jet before take-off, launching with the pilot or carrying out upgrades and maintenance, everyone plays a part in keeping the aircraft performing at its best.

There’s also a strong sense of responsibility that comes with the role. You work closely with the pilots, you see them every day and you feel accountable for their safety. They’re not faceless people stepping into an aircraft - they’re individuals you know and it’s our job to protect them. That sense of trust and purpose is what makes the work so meaningful.

The aircraft maintenance apprenticeship programme has been a really supportive experience. All my study is completed during work hours, with travel, living away and study blocks fully supported. BAE Systems invests in your development so you can build the skills and confidence needed to maintain essential systems and support future capability in aerospace. It feels like a place where you can grow, keep learning and build a long, meaningful career.

Life at BAE Systems has infinite possibilities. We use so many different processes to maintain the jets - one day I might be supporting flight control checks, the next I’m helping with hydraulic testing or working on an engine swap. Every day offers something new to explore and contribute to.

Outside of work, I really value the flexibility and balance my role offers. My partner and I often cycle to a local café by a lake and I enjoy boat fishing - it’s peaceful and never loses its charm.
