Our degree apprenticeships cover many exciting disciplines including Aerospace Engineering, Management, Nuclear Engineering, Project Management, Software Engineering, Information & Technology, and Enterprise Architecture.

England and Wales
  • Age 16+
  • 5 GCSEs grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Maths, English and a minimum of 240/96 UCAS points, or equivalent. Some roles may also require Science, additional technical subjects.
 
Scotland
  • Age 16+
  • 5 National 5s at grade C or above including English, Maths (excluding application of Maths) and a Science + 3-4 Highers at grade C or above (dependant on role) which must include English, Maths (excluding Application of Maths). Some roles may also require additional technical subjects. 

 

Please note: some roles at BAE Systems are subject to security and export control restrictions and your nationality or place of birth may limit the roles you can undertake.

Engineering degree apprenticeship opportunities

The engineering degree apprenticeship scheme in aerospace, is a five year scheme. The aerospace degree apprenticeship scheme covers a wide range of engineering branches required to design, develop, build and maintain modern advanced aircraft.

As a naval architecture & weights engineering apprentice you will play a critical role in ensuring that a boat meets all contractual safety requirements for effective operation. Naval architecture involves five core sub-disciplines- hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, infrastructure, transversals, and concept design.

As an apprentice systems engineer, your role is to design, develop and test designs and solutions, which can extend from components and equipment to more complete and complex integrated systems. You will be part of the integrated combat systems engineering community, and contribute to the real-world products, ensuring these are delivered to time, cost and quality requirements.

As a Digital Engineering Business Analyst Apprentice, you will specialise in relevant disciplines. This ensures that your skills and talents are engaged in the type of work that you will ultimately be employed in as a qualified engineer.

As a manufacturing engineer apprentice, you will work to ensure all manufacturing processes are carried out in a safe manner. You will maintain manufacturing processes within the process/product design parameters and continually improve processes. You will support resolution of any manufacturing issues that arise to ensure interruptions in production are resolved in a safe manner with minimal down time and support business processes.

As a network engineering apprentice you will be trained to take responsibility for the development, installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of systems across the business in a range of areas including software engineering, network infrastructure and cyber security analysis.

As a test and commissioning degree apprenticeship you will be offered a wide and exciting variety of opportunities in a broad spectrum of test and commissioning disciplines. The apprentices will work as part of a dedicated team to meet departmental goals whilst developing their technical skills & understanding of the different test sections and T&C processes.

As an engineering apprentice you will develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across a range of different engineering disciplines. During this time you will gain valuable experience in electrical, mechanical and electronic manufacturing engineering environments, which will culminate in you completing an end point assessment.

As a mechanical engineering apprentice you will be part of one of the largest teams of mechanical engineers, within a variety of areas, including the propulsion system, mechanical systems and structural. This discipline covers pressurised air and gas, hydraulics, survival and domestics, variable ballast, heating, ventilation, atmosphere control, cooling systems, diesel generators, ocean interfaces, and propulsion systems.

The nuclear scheme offers a mix of office and production placements, which will allow you to be involved with the many mechanical engineering activities required within the nuclear build and manufacturing environment. These diverse placements enable you to develop and use project management skills, as you support the safe construction and delivery of another quality nuclear capability.

As a digital cyber engineer apprentice, you will work on real-world technically challenging submarine projects, whilst earning a degree-level qualification. You will complete tasks such as security analysis, vulnerability assessments and troubleshoot issues whilst also creating technical solutions to complex challenges.

As a software engineering apprentice you will be involved in working alongside experienced and outstanding software engineers. As a IT consultant apprentice you will combine spending periods of time at university, where you will specialise as an IT consultant and acquire an honours degree, with time working on real projects in the business, which could include root business analysis, contributing to the design of software solutions, and implementing innovative digital solutions to drive efficiency.

As a cost estimating degree apprentice, you will be part of the commercial function working closely with all areas of the business to collate and justify costs, create estimates for future work and manage change.

As a project controls apprentice you will be responsible for ensuring that the plans, schedules and risk management is in place for the project, understanding of the projects performance, looking at trends, highlighting potential issues, forecasting prospective outcomes, identification of mitigating actions and recommendations to the project team to enable the project to be delivered on time, cost and quality (the key facets of any project).
