Ron MBDA Case Study

I specifically enjoy being on the programme as the work on the UK Combat Air Demonstrator is tangible - with first flight due in the next couple of years I know we are not far from seeing it fly which is always a very motivating feeling.

My place in MBDA is within the New Business team where I spend the majority of my time writing technical documents, liaising with technical teams and responding to customer asks. My work will vary greatly depending on the time of the year and depends what contracts are up for renewal. I love this role as it allows me communicate with technical leads within MBDA but also business and commercial contacts from both within MBDA and our industry partners and MoD.

As a team we also place the dependencies on the wider programme to ensure they can scope the work that is due to happen in the next contract cycle so we can plan for it accordingly. This usually means we are involved in many in person sessions either at our other MBDA sites in Bristol or Bolton or at our industry partners sites to be able to communicate our plans back out to the Tempest partners.

I get involved in extra activities around my day-to-day role that enable me and others to do our jobs better; I am part of the Innovation Agents initiative and help design and facilitate workshops within the programme to understand blockers and come with new innovative ideas.

I recently ran a workshop during one of MBDA’s “Demo day” – a day the programme run once a quarter to demonstrate the work we did in the previous quarter to the whole sector. I am also involved in the Tempest Early Careers Network (TECN) where I enjoy networking with people with a similar amount of experience as me – I see this as an extension of my day-to-day role as I speak to so many people regularly.
