‘Engineers Making a Difference’ – a new, educational book from the Imperial College of London showcases 46 extraordinary engineers helping to change the world, and Warton based BAE Systems engineer, Krystina Pearson-Rampeearee is one of those who feature.
Compiled by the Imperial College and What on Earth Books publishing, the educational book aims to inspire the next generation of inventors, technicians, scientists, entrepreneurs and engineers by showcasing the careers of those working across the engineering world.
The book has been authored by Dr Shini Somara, a mechanical engineer, broadcaster and producer and features bright illustrations to draw the reader in and discover more about the various engineers and their industries - how they found their way into their industry, their inspirations and how their work makes a difference in the world.
As a passionate advocate of science, technology, engineering and maths – STEM, Krystina also volunteers as a STEM Ambassador for BAE Systems and this year was selected to be an Aviation Ambassador for the UK Department of Transport. Krystina recently transferred across from the Air Sector into BAE Systems Submarines. Her profile in the book however, focuses on her passion for engineering and previous role as a senior flight systems engineer working on the next generation fighter jet.
I’m incredibly proud to have been asked to take part in this book project. I’m passionate about engineering and so it’s been a great opportunity to be able to share my work and experiences alongside so many other amazing engineers in their fields."Krystina
“For those of us working in engineering, we know how exciting and challenging it is to work in a STEM based career and how wide ranging the opportunities are, but for young people it’s perhaps not as obvious where STEM could take them. Knowing this book showcases so many different careers and how accessible it’s going to be is a really positive step forward in raising the profile of STEM for the next generation.”
With support from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation every state secondary school in the UK will be sent two copies of the book, along with supporting resources that have been designed to assist the school in the delivery of their career guidance plan. The free school kits contain copies of the book, a teacher’s guide, suite of posters and a 4 metre long wall chart.
You can explore the Engineers Making a Difference website for more content and the book is now also available to purchase separately from educational book retailers.
