Louise has worked for BAE Systems for 37 years and has been a passionate participant in The Great Tommy Sleep Out for the past three. She braves the freezing temperatures each March, for veterans who she strongly believes deserve our unwavering support.

This March, I packed up my tent again to join my colleagues at RAF Valley in Wales for The Great Tommy Sleep Out. It was my third year taking part. It's never comfortable, but that's exactly the point. We're standing together to support veterans who need our help.

Growing up in an armed forces family, this cause and supporting the work of the Royal British Veterans Enterprise matters deeply to me. I've seen the sacrifices service life demands and how tough the transition to civilian life can be for some veterans.

What keeps me coming back each year is the people – the sleep out brings colleagues and RAF teammates together. We set up tents, share stories and work as a team to raise funds and awareness for a vital cause – and are united in our passion to make sure our country’s veterans are looked after.

It's also a challenge anyone can join. With my arthritic knees I can't commit to a long run or a sponsored hike, but I can still make a difference and to me that means everything.
