A fantastic opportunity to congratulate talented sports people

Lizzy said: “The evening was a fantastic opportunity to congratulate talented sports people, at all levels, who have dedicated  their lives to Army sport. The Army places great stead in sport – it is seen to prepare soldiers for operations by enhancing physical and mental fitness, resilience, leadership and teamwork while at the same time fostering cohesion, pride, humility, the ability to thrive under pressure and the courage to overcome fear. Marcus and I were proud to be in attendance on behalf of BAE Systems, the evening was hugely successful.”

Guest of honour for the evening was Chris Boardman MBE, the former English racing cyclist who won the inaugural men’s world time trial in 1994 and also won the individual pursuit gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

The black tie even was centred around a meal before the prize giving which was broadcast around the world by the British Forces Broadcasting Service. Categories included Cadet Sportsperson of the Year, Rising Star, Official of the Year, Major and Minor Unit of the Year, Team of the Year (won by the Army Women’s Tug of War team), Sportswoman and Sportsman of the year and two Lifetime Achievement awards.
