BAE Systems Anti Threat System
Introducing our counter-uxs capability

Uncrewed threats evolve faster than traditional defence systems can respond. New drone behaviours, payloads and tactics emerge almost daily. Keeping pace is no longer enough. You need a system that’s prepared for change.

The BAE Systems Anti-Threat System (BATS) is a modular, software-driven decision engine that unlocks the full potential of your current and future sensors and effectors. It fuses intelligence, delivers rapid decision logic, and adapts at speed across the entire threat spectrum.

Key advantages

  • Understand the threat: A multi-sensor approach detects and classifies targets. Real-time signature analysis supports attribution, intent assessment and rapid action.

  • Act first, not second: Scale rapidly from point defence to wide-area protection. Share and exploit data across your enterprise to react faster and with greater precision.

  • Intelligence at the core: Configurable decision logic enables layered defence against drones, missiles and emerging uncrewed threats. BATS learns, adapts and improves continuously.

  • Ready for what comes next: A modular, configurable architecture that can integrate seamlessly with most air defence and command systems. As new sensors, effectors or threat types appear, BATS evolves with minimal disruption.

A new software-defined approach

BAE Systems Anti Threat System (BATS) is a new software defined solution, enabled by C2 and decision support, to counter uncrewed threats.

UAV activity is detected by sensors that feed into a data core. This identifies and classifies the threat level. It then provides a recommendation to authorised personnel, or employs the most appropriate effector response based on your counter measure toolkit, all while maintaining a human in-the-loop.

The powerful and secure data core can also analyse signature capture data in real-time to provide warnings, confirm action, deliver a counter measure or assess effectiveness.

National Defence

The threat from hostile aerial incursions and attacks is growing rapidly and unpredictably. BATS can provide real-time detection and rapid neutralisation of these threats, which can significantly increase the protection of forces and critical assets.

Critical national infrastructure protection

With the rise of unauthorised drones and airborne threats targeting critical national infrastructure, airports and urban centres, traditional security measures such as point solutions are no longer sufficient. BATS can offer continuous detection and mitigation capabilities to deliver enhanced situational awareness and proactive defence.

Tactical deployment

When critical assets are mobilised, they need to be protected whilst on the move. BATS is dynamic enough to mobilise during a tactical deployment, offering continuous protection of your platforms and critical assets.

BAE Systems Anti Threat System (BATS) FAQs

Counter UAS and Counter-UxS systems typically use a multi sensor approach to detect, track and classify drones. This can include radar, radio frequency (RF) sensing, electro optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors and data fusion software. By correlating inputs from multiple sensors, a Counter UXS solution can distinguish between drones, birds and legitimate air traffic, providing high confidence identification and reducing false alarms in complex environments.

Organisations should consider factors such as sensor coverage, threat scalability, integration capability, operational environment, regulatory constraints and system adaptability. Equally important are supportability, upgrade paths and the ability to respond to evolving drone threats through regular software and capability enhancements.

This Counter UxS solution, known as the BAE Systems Anti Threat System (BATS), is designed to meet military, government and critical infrastructure protection requirements. This includes persistent surveillance, early warning and proportionate defeat of uncrewed threats. It supports operations across complex and congested airspace, enabling users to protect sites, forces and assets from a wide range of UxS threats while aligning with established rules of engagement and mission constraints.

The BAE Systems Anti Threat System (BATS) uses a modular, layered architecture that allows customers to scale capability based on threat complexity, geographic coverage and operational tempo. Sensors, effectors and command and control (C2) components can be configured to support fixed site, semi mobile, or mobile deployments, enabling a tailored solution rather than a one size fits all approach.

The BAE Systems Anti Threat System (BATS) counter-UxS solution is designed to integrate with existing air defence, security and C2 systems through open interfaces and standard data protocols. This reduces integration risk, avoids duplication of capability and supports a layered air defence or site security architecture, allowing counter UxS to operate as part of a wider operational ecosystem rather than as a standalone capability.

The BAE Systems Anti Threat System (BATS) counter UxS solution is designed with through life support and adaptability in mind. Software driven upgrades, modular components and ongoing threat analysis enable the system to evolve as drone technologies and tactics change. This approach helps protect investment value and ensures the solution remains operationally relevant over its service life.
