Much like an app store found in a regular smart phone, our App Locker solution provides a configuration management and governance tool, storing applications which have been though an assured process.
Apps hosted in the App Locker can be subsequently deployed into the Royal Navy Shared Infrastructure onboard a platform. Deploying new functionality in this way enables platforms to rapidly reconfigure their mission systems capability, depending on the platform’s tasking – anything from the provision of humanitarian relief to patrolling for drug trafficking.

Hosted from our state-of-the art Maritime Integration and Support Centre (MISC) facility using real-world synthetic simulation and utilising the latest digital technology, the App Locker is being developed iteratively, delivering continually progressive functionality to ensure it not only meets the demands of current in-service platforms, but is also fit for future Royal Navy platforms.

Our ongoing commitment to delivering our Combat Management Systems using an open architecture environment, and our delivery of a Software Development Kit supporting the trial and test of new applications, allows this innovative App Locker to be truly realised.

Although still early in its associated road map, the ambition is for the App Locker to enable complete through-life management and configuration of Royal Navy Apps across the fleet, from testing through to deployment, allowing platforms to be reassigned and adapted at speed.
We are delighted with the team’s achievement. To date we have successfully used the App Locker to enable the trial of new functionality in the sandbox testing area of in-service platforms, a really strong start on the road map of the App Locker product. Wayne Muschamp, BAE Systems Engineering Manager (led the delivery of the App Locker)
We are committed to our delivery of the latest technology into the fleet in a rapid, safe, secure and managed way. The App Locker is another example of this commitment and its delivery is a fantastic testament to the team’s innovation and our partnership working with the DE&S and the Royal Navy. Amelia Gould, Naval Ships Combat Systems Director
The App Locker offers the Royal Navy an opportunity to modernise the way in which Combat System capabilities can be delivered to the front line, bringing a more agile way of thinking to Maritime Combat Systems. Lieutenant Commander Mike King, Royal Navy
This is good work from our perspective teams and is a real step forward for the enterprise to collectively deliver assured capability at pace. Commodore Phil Game Royal Navy, Head of DE&S Maritime Combat Systems
