At Brough, 23 employees rose to the challenge of cycling a mile in the quickest time during their lunchtime in the restaurant. The fastest man was Neil Cleminshaw with a time of 2:13 and the fastest woman was Janine Elvidge with a time of 2:43.
East Riding Leisure kindly provided the two spin bikes for the challenge.
A total of £87.64 was raised for Sport Relief
At Warton, more than 200 employees took to the runway to run or walk a mile. The runway was closed for nearly an hour as employees dressed in everything from shirts-and-ties to onesies took on a one-mile loop down the runway (watch the short video below).
The winner, Pete Gibson, a member of the human factors team, completed the circuit in less than five minutes.
Second was Typhoon support integration worker Graham Tagg and third was Mark Willett, a performance manager.
Peter Boddy, who works on the Typhoon avionics team, said the wind gusting down the runway was against the runners on their way back to the finish line. He said: “It was a brilliant event, I really enjoyed it.
“We do not get a lot of opportunities to get out on the runway, so just seeing the tyre marks down the tarmac gives you a sense of a place where important work is undertaken.
“Everyone was cheering and clapping each other over the line, there was a real camaraderie among the people taking part.”
Once the run was over, the runway was swept to allow testing work to take place on Typhoon for the rest of the day.
So far a total of £1,060 has been raised for Sports Relief.
Those participants who registered for the race were entered into a draw for a free flying lesson with the BAE Flying Club. Katherine Allen, a senior contracts officer from the commercial function, is the lucky winner.
At Yeovil, 65 employees took part in a general knowledge quiz during their coffee and lunch breaks.
The winner of the quiz was Matt Corkin with a very impressive 68.5 out of 70, second place went to Natalie Franks and Sean Rowlands who scored 63 and Julia Holliday came third with a score of 62.
Matt won a bottle of champagne, donated by Pete Wescott, Natalie and Sean won a football donated by Phil Wallbridge, and Julia won a ‘BAE Systems Goody bag.
