Lego League competitors sponsored by BAE Systems, South Australia

Adelaide, Australia - Science fun is coming to town — BAE Systems is sponsoring the second annual South Australian First Lego League event this Sunday (13 November) in Adelaide.

Through the challenge, over 250 South Australian school children aged 9-16 will explore the cutting-edge world of food hygiene and safety in teams using robots that they have built from LEGO.

They will explore the topic of food safety and possible points of contamination from our food encounters – from exposure to insects and creatures, to unsterile processing and transportation, to unsanitary preparation and storage – and then find ways to prevent this.

The event is part of an international competition in which hundreds of thousands of children participate each year.
BAE Systems Australia, and its local partners SAGE, the Computers in Education Group of South Australia (CEGSA) and the South Australian government, enthusiastically encourage efforts to get children passionate about science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects and have given substantial support to the event.

Last year’s competition winners from Trinity College have had major global success and been awarded a prestigious innovation patent for their team’s design. More information here.

The event will be opened by, Minister for Science and Information Economy Tom Kenyon and attended by Chief Executive of BAE Systems Australia David Allott. Master of ceremonies will be Maz Compton from popular television channel MTV.
