Cliff Robson, Group Managing Director BAE Systems Air, has been awarded a CBE for services to the defence industry.
There are also MBEs awarded to Paul Ethell, HR Director Submarines, for services to the defence industry and the community and to Steve Smith, Chief Engineer Digital Intelligence, for services to security and defence.
Cliff Robson, who’s worked across both the Company’s Air and Submarine sectors in the north west of England, said: “It’s an honour and a pleasure to receive this award in the King’s Honours List. Being recognised for work and an industry that I feel so passionate about means a great deal to me. The UK’s sovereign defence capabilities are essential for the security of the nation. We should feel proud of the significant contribution the industry makes to prosperity and our local communities while doing our vital work to support our Armed Forces. I’m extremely proud to have played a part in maintaining and developing these capabilities for the next generation.
“None of this would have been possible without the fantastic colleagues, customers and partners I have worked with over the last 40 years and of course the support of my family.”
Paul Ethell’s award recognises his role in developing the Submarine Academy for Skills and Knowledge in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and his work to promote jobs and skills within the wider community.
He said: “I’m really honoured and humbled to receive this award and feel fortunate to have been involved with some extraordinary people and programmes through my career with BAE Systems.”
Steve Smith’s citation highlights the role he’s played in developing the secure systems that ensure the UK and its allies can collaborate and communicate with each other.
He said: "I am immensely proud and deeply honoured to have received this award. Throughout my long career, I have been fortunate to have a significant role on a number of key programmes and this is an acknowledgment not just of my contribution but also the teams that I have worked with.
"To be recognised in this way, for doing a job that I have thoroughly enjoyed, is very special and a big surprise.”
The three employees will now look forward to receiving their awards at investiture ceremonies.
