Brandon Bowman, 20, who is currently on the BAE Systems Maritime Project Control Foundation Scheme (PCFS), was presented his award by Councillor Seán Woodward on behalf of Hampshire County Council.
Brandon demonstrated an exceptional level of hard work, determination and professionalism which has enabled him to progress from Craft Apprentice, through the technical apprenticeship in just two years instead of four years. Brandon was then awarded a place on the new Project Control Foundation Scheme which started two weeks ago.
The Project Control Foundation Scheme offers the opportunity to complete an honours degree in Project Management while undertaking a variety of work placements with the business.
Project Controllers are responsible for ensuring that BAE Systems projects stay on track, understanding the big picture, making decisions and driving key actions to conclusion.
Dave Goodall, Head of HR Solutions, BAE Systems Maritime Services said: “We are extremely proud of Brandon and what he has achieved since joining us. This award is not only a fantastic recognition of Brandon’s hard work but is also testament to the quality of the apprentice programmes we offer at BAE Systems.”
Brandon has now been shortlisted for the Southern Business Awards which will be held in Brighton in October 2014.
Brandon said: “I am extremely proud to be recognised, it’s good to be able to inspire other young apprentices that it is possible to succeed with hard work and determination. I would like to thank the company for their continued support throughout the last few years. I am looking forward to continuing to improve and developing my skills and developing my career at BAE Systems.”
Mark Waldron, Editor of The News said: "The Apprentice of the Year Award recognises those people in work-based training who go above and beyond the call of duty not just for their own benefit, but for the benefit of their firm. The judges at this year's Business Excellence Awards were hugely impressed with Brandon, who is not only a successful apprentice, but also goes into schools to spread the word about the benefits of apprenticeships."
