ROCKVILLE, Maryland – Bob Love, director of strategic initiatives at BAE Systems, has received the prestigious U.S. Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. The medal is the second highest award presented by the Office of the Secretary of Defense for non-career Federal employees, private citizens, and foreign nationals. Past recipients include current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and former First Lady Laura Bush.

Mr. Love was recognized for his role, from 2006 to 2009, as the executive director of expeditionary business at the Task Force for Business and Stability Operations, a Department of Defense organization. There, he assisted in the development of a U.S. strategy aimed at increasing manufacturing in Iraq, which, in turn, increased sustainable employment in order to reduce violence. He also helped to facilitate international trade by fostering relationships with corporations in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden, Lebanon, Iraq, and several countries in Africa.

“As a result of his leadership, approximately 70 Iraqi factories are at increased production, regenerating approximately 100,000 jobs; millions of investment dollars are flowing in country; and multiple joint ventures are underway or completed,” says a citation, accompanying the medal, signed by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Mr. Love joined BAE Systems Support Solutions in early 2010. As director of strategic initiatives, he is focused on developing the company’s presence in key locations around the world. He is also instrumental in expanding BAE Systems’ capabilities in the area of stability operations and international development.

“This is a tremendous and well deserved recognition for Bob,” said David Herr, president of Support Solutions. “On behalf of BAE Systems, I thank him for his service to our nation and his extraordinary accomplishments.”

Mr. Love retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 2004, following a distinguished career and various assignments within the logistics community. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Material Management, and a Master’s of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He is also a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College.
