The HVP is a next-generation, adaptable, low-drag guided projectile capable of executing multiple missions for a number of gun systems, such as the naval 5-inch gun and land-based 155mm howitzers.
Originally designed for the electromagnetic railgun, the HVP is a next-generation, adaptable, low-drag guided projectile capable of executing multiple missions for a number of gun systems, such as the naval 5-inch gun and land-based 155mm howitzers.

“The HVP provides lethality and performance enhancements over conventional rounds for current and future gun systems,” said Brent Butcher, vice president of the Weapon Systems product line at BAE Systems. “The award will allow for continued technological advancement while supporting efforts to further reduce development, production, and total ownership costs.”

HVP’s low drag, high velocity design extends projectile range. Firing smaller precision rounds decreases the possibility of collateral damage and provides for deeper magazines.

HVP is one of several BAE Systems' precision-guided munition programs. The company supports long range precision fires with broad expertise in the design and manufacturing of howitzers and projectile guidance systems, and the production of high-quality explosives and propellants.

BAE Systems will work with the SCO and U.S. Army to add capability, improve the existing HVP system, and test the enhanced capability beginning this year through 2022.
