BAE Systems is the UK's largest defence and security company with approximately 34,300 employees based at around 50 sites in the UK.

We deliver a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology solutions and support services. We are a leading supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and have market leadership positions in the air and maritime domains.

  • £8.2 billion UK turnover in 2012
  • Directly contributed £3.5 billion of value to the UK economy and an indirect contribution of £7.3 billion. For every £1 in value created by BAE Systems, £2.10 is created across the economy as a whole
  • Generated £3.4 billion in exports or 1.14% of all UK exports
  • Labour productivity was £105,000 per employee -  2.46 times the national average
  • Invested £3.6 billion annually with 9,000 UK suppliers
  • Helped to sustain 114,920 jobs across the UK economy. For every 10 jobs at BAE Systems, 35 jobs are supported across the economy as a whole
  • Invested £171 million in fixed capital in 2012 including £783 million in R&D including £69M of own funds

Education/Early Careers

  • £80 million invested in education and skills activities each year
  • Recruiting 568 apprentices and 287 graduates in 2014
  • Around 870 apprentices and 500 graduates in training at any one time
  • Every year 250 schools and 25,000 young people aged 9-13 years old experience BAE Systems’ School Roadshow, organised in partnership with the Royal Air Force
  • Key partnerships with over 30 universities across the UK
