We need the engineers, the manufacturers, the technologists,
the scientists, and the thinkers of tomorrow to bring new ideas
and ways of working across the partnership to deliver the UK’s
Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
The Future Combat Air System will comprise of a mix of integrated components including crewed and uncrewed platforms, next-generation weapons, networks and data sharing, and support and training to meet the needs of the 21st century digital battle space.
Since 2018, the Team Tempest partners have been working at pace with a range of companies, research organisations and leading universities across the UK to apply the cutting-edge tools and pioneering approaches to design, test, and define the future of combat air.
At the heart of FCAS is Tempest – the UK name for the next-generation combat aircraft being developed through the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) with the UK, Italy and Japan working together.
As one of the UK's most significant and enduring defence programmes, GCAP strengthens international collaboration, drives technological innovation, and enhances interoperability with allies. Through FCAS, the UK is investing in the skills, technology and industrial expertise needed to maintain a world-leading combat air capability and ensure it remains at the forefront of defence and security for decades to come.
