Military pilots and C4ISR leaders know that proven, up-to-date IFF aircraft identification systems provide time-critical insights that reduce friendly fire incidents, support mission success, and save lives. That’s true in the air, on ships, and on the ground – especially in hostile environments. BAE Systems has been a leader in IFF systems technology worldwide for more than seven decades, having delivered over 14,000 transponders, 1,500 interrogators, and 6,000 combined interrogator transponder systems for use across a multitude of platforms.
Available for all service branches, our IFF systems can enhance the safety and operational tracking of legacy, new, and emerging platforms including unmanned aerial vehicles, ships, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters. They can also replace outdated systems with small form factor units that support SWAP-C objectives and accommodate future upgrades.

Our IFF military Mark XIIA transponders allow aircraft and ships to be identified as friendly forces by responding to interrogations from ground-based or airborne IFF systems. The transponders installed on aircraft and naval vessels establish the identity of friendly forces. For SWAP-constrained platforms and to reduce procurement, upgrade, and life cycle costs, see more about our next generation AN/DPX-7 Reduced Size Transponder (RST) below. All of our transponders feature:
- Flexible interface designed to accommodate retrofit and new installations
- Modes 1, 2, 3/A, C, 4, S, and ADS-B
- Mode 5
- DoD AIMS certified
