BAE Systems' munitions capabilities are measured not only by their performance in the field, but by their impact on the environment, logistics and budgets.

Small Arms Ammunition (SAA)
BAE Systems can produce over one million rounds per day of SAA in 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO calibres including ball, tracer and blank natures. Packaging configurations include carton, link and clip to suit operational and training requirements.

NATO-qualifying designs meet stringent UK specifications and exceed the requirements of relevant NATO STANAGS, resulting in ammunition which delivers outstanding performance and reliability.

BAE Systems has also invested in the development of Enhanced Performance Ammunition for both 5.56mm and 7.62mm, which provides improved barrier blind characteristics and incorporates innovative lightweight technologies to aid logistics, improve mobility and reduce costs.

Medium Calibre
BAE Systems is the principal supplier of medium calibre ammunition (20mm KAA, 30mm Rarden and 30mm KCB) to the UK MoD and other NATO members. All our medium calibre ammunition has been type classified by the British Forces.

BAE Systems also manufactures the 40mm Cased Telescoped Ammunition suite as mandated by the UK MoD and French Direction Generale de l’Armement (DGA) vehicle programmes. This ammunition provides increased effect against armoured vehicles, structures and soft targets, and a reduced round size when compared to similar nature ammunition.

81mm Mortar Ammunition
We produce a full suite of 81mm mortar ammunition qualified for use with the L16A1 and L16A2 weapon system. They use the Mk 4 Charge System, have a maximum range of 5650m (high explosive), and include proprietary precision capability.

105mm Artillery Ammunition
The next generation of explosive fill combines world-leading Insensitive Munitions (IM) characteristics with optimised explosive effects on target. The 105mm HE IM L53 delivers increased performance compared to the current round. The entire range is supported by an extensive choice of fuzes and propelling charges.

4.5 Inch Naval Ammunition
When the Royal Navy needed a replacement for its current in-service illuminating round, BAE Systems developed an amended shell body design that suits the new fuze, a new driving band and base ejection geometry with an updated payload. The round is available as visible and infrared.

In addition to the new illuminating rounds, BAE Systems continues to manufacture High Explosive Improved Ammunition (IA) and Surface Use Practice (SUP) IA rounds.

120mm Tank Ammunition
As preferred supplier to the UK MoD, BAE Systems knew its latest 120mm tank ammunition needed to deliver world-leading advanced ant armour capabilities with maximum lethality and high reliability in the widest range of climatic conditions. The result is ammunition incorporating the latest ballistic technologies, including state- of- the-art penetrator and propellant materials in high explosive, screening, kinetic energy and training rounds.

Warhead and Bomb Systems
Our conventional warheads are used worldwide in a range of explosive materials, including Insensitive Munition (IM) compositions, heavy bombs, torpedoes and depth charges. Our high performance warheads are used against high value hardened targets in the Joint Stand-Off Weapon (JSOW) and Storm Shadow Missile Systems, and are based on Bomb Royal Ordnance Augmented Charge (BROACH) technology.

BAE Systems Munitions is currently working on programmes to develop the next generation of warhead systems to defeat ultra-hardened and deeply buried targets. Our customers require a flexible service that enables them to deliver on their commitments. That’s why we deliver current or advanced explosive compositions at high and low volumes, complemented by an extensive range of in-house trial and test facilities for X-ray, dismantling and environmentally friendly disposal.
