Compass Call Cross Deck

A special-mission Gulfstream EC-37B aircraft flies through the sky above a layer of clouds. The sun sets in the distance.
Disrupting enemy command and control

The Legacy

Compass Call is an airborne tactical weapon system that has provided protection and supported special missions on the EC-130H since 1981. The EC-130H is the United States’ premier stand-off electronic attack platform. BAE Systems serves as the platform’s systems engineering, integration, and testing lead as well as the mission system prime contractor.

The Future

To meet new mission requirements and combat advanced threats, BAE Systems will re-host the EC-130H’s mission equipment onto a higher performing aircraft, recently selected as the Gulfstream G550 Conformal Airborne Early Warning Aircraft (CAEW). The new platform, designated as the EC-37B, will support Compass Call capabilities that are required in multiple mission plans to support operation in anti-access/ area denial and irregular warfare environments. By integrating mature electronics onto a state-of-the-art aircraft, the total weapon system provides pilots and operators with the utmost confidence.

When the EC-37B enters service as a 21st century electronic attack platform, the combination of technology maturation and a new aircraft is projected to provide:

  • A 50 percent reduction in weight
  • A 50 percent reduction in operating costs
  • Operation at higher altitude
  • Execution at longer ranges
  • Performance at faster speed

The Compass Call mission system delivers increased capability and flexibility within a new package, enabling the EC-37B to provide an essential edge for our warfighters well into the future.
