What does the summer placement involve?

The role of a Project Management Intern is to harness the expertise of our talented and highly experienced Programme Managers, Service Delivery Managers and Project Management Control professionals to successfully support the delivery of a mixture of business and technical Projects, Programmes and IT Services.
You will provide support to a project team within the business, focussing on portfolios, programmes and projects. As part of this assignment you will learn the skills required to interpret and facilitate governance and reporting processes, project set-up and close down tasks as well as the management of project finance activities. As you develop as an individual, you will become responsible for guiding and training other members of staff, while supporting a culture of delivery excellence.
Summer Interns often get the chance to work on external client projects. Our clients are based across the UK therefore there may be the requirement for you to work away from the London offices. Data Consultants develop a range of skills and experience related to the Data Scientist, Data Engineer and Data Analyst roles, supporting their professional development towards selecting one of those roles as their preferred career path while contributing to data projects in their own right.
Data Consultants typically operate in roles teamed with other data specialists, supporting the team and the client in a variety of projects which develop data capability, insights and solutions to realise business outcomes. The role is varied, involving participation in a variety of projects and roles in support of personal development and identification of career path aspirations.
As a Data Consultant, you might:
- Participate in client engagements to elicit and document their vision, aims and / or requirements for the development of data capability, insights or solutions.
- Undertake data analysis to reveal insights from datasets, either as an end in itself, or to inform other project tasks.
- Support the investigation and documentation of data assets in the client estate to inform decisions to change and improve the data landscape.
- Develop units within wider data solutions such as ETL pipelines.
- Prepare and present materials to communicate data insights, including creation of data visualisations.

You will work as a part of a project team, alongside skilled and experienced individuals who are motivated to train and coach you on the day-to-day skills required to work closely with our customers, both internal and external. Engineering Interns will support their team to ensure that engineering practices are followed on all aspects of project definition and delivery.

We are looking for students to work on developing innovative mission critical technology and products for our customers. Applications include high performance networking, space systems, software radios and underwater systems.
You will be part of a project team who will coach you on the day to day skills required to work closely with our customers. You might be designing RF/digital electronics or developing software/firmware targeted at a wide range of devices (e.g. FPGAs, ARM processors, GPUs, microcontrollers). You could be involved in designing signal processing algorithms or researching new and exciting areas of science and technology.

Who are we looking for?

We expect great things of our Summer Interns. In return, you can expect a £19,500 annual salary (pro-rota) and 5.5 days of holiday and product & service discounts.
Our programme teams form to meet the needs of our customers, and as an Engineering Intern, you will join one of these teams, working alongside skilled and experienced individuals who are motivated to train and coach you on the day-to-day skills required to produce high quality solutions to complex engineering problems.
You will be immersed in the programme, learning the tools, techniques and approaches used by engineering professionals and apply them in a controlled environment to ensure the programme can meet its customer’s needs.
There are a variety of roles within Programme and System Engineering. These include:
Systems Engineer: Working as part of the core programme teams, our system engineers design our solutions, managing the requirements, assessing the options, and making the technical decisions to deliver value to the customer
Software Engineer (Big Data): The majority of our programmes incorporate significant data volumes either in throughput (multi-Terabit), or storage (multi-Petabyte)
Software Engineer (Application): Using a mix of custom development (commonly Java but sometimes C++), and customisation of open-source/3rd party tools, predominately on Linux, to address critical aspects of our solutions. These can be a mix of business logic, ETL, or performance bottlenecks
DevOps Engineer: Covering a wide range of activity including traditional DevOps, TechOps, and DevSecOps. These engineers form a core element of our systems teams ensuring robust, secure, and efficient execution in development, test, and deployment environments. Activities are wide ranging, but include the development CD/CI toolchains, design of deployment strategies, and the defining orchestration strategies and approaches
Software Engineer (User Interface): Our UI software engineers are involved in making our solutions usable by our customer, and often their customers as well. They will commonly using a mix of custom development (HTML5, and Javascript with React ) and configuration of open-source/3rd party tools (eg Kibana, Maltego, Nginx) to meet the specific requirements and workflows
Infrastructure Engineer: Our solutions commonly utilise large numbers of servers (physical or virtual) to achieve the programme objectives. Our infrastructure engineers design our deployments in terms of servers, networking, and security, to meet the performance, and capacity needs of each individual solution
Testing Engineer: Our customer rely on us to deliver reliable solutions to deliver their missions. Our test teams ensure that we what we deliver meets our customer needs and our own high standards. Test engineers will join our programmes very early in their lifecycle and will be involved throughout design, integration, test, and final commissioning with our customers

Consultants are often the bridge between the business and technical delivery teams and operate across the full length of the project lifecycle, from helping to identify the problem and defining the solution, to implementing and managing the change required for our clients to reach their goals. You will learn the tools, techniques and approaches used by consulting professionals.
The Management Consulting community work with our clients to help them specify their requirements, develop new business processes and guide them through the organisational and behavioural implications of digital transformation and to help ensure that there is a return on investment.
Business Consultant – As a Business Consultant your role may involve elements of defining a client’s strategy, developing their future operating model and/or defining and supporting the client’s organisational change. You will be involved throughout the full lifecycle of projects and programmes from early visioning and baselining activities through to a focus on sustainability, transition to business as usual and the delivery of benefits.
Business Analyst – The role of a Business Analyst is to work closely with clients to investigate business situations, then identify and evaluate options for improvements to systems and operations.

Our Security Consultants help our customers understand their cyber risk, secure their business and improve their security operations. We are the people they trust to defend, or recover, from cyberattack through provision of technical services, assurance and support combined with expert analysis.
Typical responsibilities might include:
- Assistance in the investigation of security breaches and incidents
- Delivery of information security education and awareness
- Support of information security governance and management
- Support of application and system-level risk assessments
- Development and review of information security policies and procedures
- Preparation of information security audit and compliance activities
- Analysis and research of security technologies to support the development of innovative solutions
