Richard was appointed Managing Director, UK Services division of BAE Systems Applied Intelligence in January 2017. In this role he was accountable for the delivery of services and solutions into Commercial, Government and UK Security clients, a role that expanded to an international remit when he became MD, Government in 2018.
Prior to joining Applied Intelligence, Richard ran the BAES Fleet support business in Portsmouth Naval Base, providing technical, engineering and delivery services to the UK Royal Navy and international customers. Prior to his appointment, Richard spent 22 years with Rolls-Royce in a variety of roles across defence and commercial sectors.
Following graduation with an honours degree in Physics from the University of Birmingham in 1990, Richard progressed through technical functions within Rolls-Royce, developing and supporting naval customers. Following several key programme management roles, Richard moved into the Operations group in Montreal Canada in 2001 where he was accountable for quality and improvement.
After a spell as Business Director, responsible for Government partnerships and technology investment, Richard returned to the UK in 2003 and joined Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace to lead their Engineering group, becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in the process. This naturally led to an assignment as Senior Vice President - Future Business Group, responsible for identifying and delivering product and service solutions to ensure the continued long term success of Defence Aerospace.
At the end of 2008, Richard returned to the Maritime sector within Rolls-Royce, being appointed as Senior Vice President - UK & International. In this role he was accountable for all Naval business and sites outside of North America until his move to BAES in 2013.
Richard is married with two children and is a school academy trustee. He enjoys many sporting activities, most notably cycling both on and off road.
